Your editorial suggests that higher education is available locally to Peterborough's youth (Leading article, THES , August 30). Well, yes, if you get into Cambridge or do one of the few programmes offered by Loughborough in Peterborough. But the nearest universities - Leicester, Lincolnshire, Loughborough - are 40 to 50 miles away, which takes two hours by public transport - a rather literal approach to widening participation.
