Highly-Cited Researchers at M.U.S.T.
Clarivate Analytics officially announced the list of Global Highly Cited Researchers 2019 on 19th November, 2019. Four professors from the Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.) were identified on the list. Distinguished Professor Wang Jun of the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines has been on the lists for two consecutive terms, his research works have been widely cited in three ESI disciplines. He is one of only 11 highly cited researchers in the world who have reached these achievements. Professor Zhang Kang of the Faculty of Medicine has been selected as one of 2,491 highly cited researchers worldwide who work in the global interdisciplinary field. Professor Zhou Mengchu of the Faculty of Information Technology has been named as a highly cited researcher for four times, along with being on the lists for three consecutive terms from 2017 to 2019. Distinguished Professor Zhou Yong of the Faculty of Information Technology was recognized for two consecutive years. M.U.S.T. is proud to share four top talents recognized in the Highly Cited Researchers, based in Macao, who produce outstanding scientific performance in Engineering, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biology and Biochemistry, Mathematics, and interdisciplinary fields.
The Global Highly Cited Researchers 2019 list includes 21 disciplines in the natural sciences and social sciences, by identifying scientists who produced papers ranking in the top 1% of the Science Citation Index (SCI) and the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) by citations for nearly a decade. There are 6,216 Highly Cited Researchers from nearly 60 nations, from which 735 scientists are Chinese.
With its establishment for 19 years, Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.) has been committing to the development of characterized and featured fields. In recent years, there have been nearly 1,000 domestic research papers published in international SCI and SSCI English journals, of which more than 50% were published in the first quartile (Q1) academic journals, including the world’s top scientific journals such as Science and Nature. The University has also been granted nearly 300 international patents. Distinguished Professor Wang Jun
Distinguished Professor Wang Jun studies on omics research and big data analysis and processing, and has propelled the industrialization of many scientific research results. He has obtained about 300 national and international invention patents and has authorized more than 30 of them. Professor Wang has published more than 400 world-class papers, including more than 100 articles in top international journals such as Cell, Nature, Science, and New England Journal of Medicine. The paper on gut microbiota published in Nature in 2010 was the most highly cited one in the biological field in China from 2005 to 2015, and was named one of the ten most important scientific discoveries of the last decade by Science in 2011. Professor Wang has won numerous awards, including national Distinguished Young Scholar, National 973 Plan Chief Scientist, ‘Nature’s 10-Ten people who matter this year’ by Nature in 2012, ‘40 Under 40’ by Fortune in 2013.
Professor Zhang Kang
Professor Zhang Kang received his PhD in Medicine from Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and PhD in Genetics from Harvard University. He is the first ophthalmology resident from mainland China at the Wilmer Eye Center of Johns Hopkins University. Professor Zhang Kang has high attainments in artificial intelligence in medicine, ophthalmology, stem cells, biomaterials, 3D printing, genetics, and precision medicine. He also has rich clinical practice experience and basic scientific research results. Professor Zhang has won many international awards such as the Burroughs Wellcome Clinical Scientist Award in Translational Research, Peking University Changjiang Scholar, and America’s Best Ophthalmologist (2010), and The Ophthalmologist World 100 Power List (2016, 2018). He has published more than 200 articles in internationally renowned journals, including New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, Science, Cell, Nature Genetics, Nature Medicine, Cell Stem Cell, Molecular Cell, PNAS, and JCI. The article about the HTRA1 gene is the main susceptibility to age-related macular degeneration was evaluated as one of the top ten progresses in world science in 2006 by Science, while the cover story about identifying medical diagnoses of eye diseases and pneumonia by AI image-based deep learning was named as the best paper in 2018 by Cell.
Professor Zhou Mengchu
Professor Zhou Mengchu is a well-known scholar in automation in the world. He is an honorary tenured professor of the New Jersey Institute of Technology and the president of the IEEE International Conference on System, Man, and Cybernetics. He has made great contributions to the theory and application of Petri nets. Professor Zhou has published 12 monographs and more than 900 papers. He is the founding editor of the IEEE Press series on System Science and Engineering, and the editor of IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica. He has won numerous professional certificates and awards, including Chair Professor of the eight batch of ‘Changjiang Scholars Program’ by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China in 1998, Humboldt Research Award for US Senior Scientists, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany and Leadership Award, Chinese Association for Science & Technology in USA in 2000, the first 21st century distinguished scientist of the Cambridge International Talent Centre in 2001, IEEE Fellow in 2003, Outstanding Contribution Award, IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society in 2004, AAAS Fellow in 2011, IFAC Fellow in 2013, Norbert Wiener Award in 2015, and Excellence Research in Prize and Medal by New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2019 .
Distinguished Professor Zhou Yong
Distinguished Professor Zhou Yong is mainly engaged in the theory and control of fractional differential equations. He has served as editorial board member or guest editorial board member of more than ten internationally renowned academic journals, national science and technology award reviewer, scientific and program committee member of several international academic conferences. He has published 6 English monographs in such as Springer, Elsevier, World Scientific, and published more than 300 academic papers in well-known magazines. More than 30 papers have been included in the ESI Highly Cited Papers. His research results have been cited and applied in many countries, regions, and research institutions.
