Self-taught Fife artist Jack Vettriano is funding a scholarship to let a disadvantaged student attend St Andrews University.
The artist, whose most famous work, The Singing Butler , sold for a record £750,000 recently, is donating £75,000 over three years.
Mr Vettriano, a former miner, has worked with St Andrews since 2002 when students asked him to become honorary artistic director of their charities campaign fashion show. Last year, he hosted a painting masterclass at the university to raise funds for the campaign, and auctioned his painting, Do You Still Dream? , which raised £30,000.
The scholarship should go to "someone with a background not dissimilar to mine - who... would not ordinarily go to university".
