Nelson Mandela's visit to the London School of Economics last week was hailed by members of the audience as a deeply moving and uplifting experience. The former South African president, 81, wowed students and staff by spontaneously strutting his stuff to the strains of a Joan Armatrading tribute song. He was joined on the dance floor, rather less spontaneously, by new Labour thinker and LSE director Anthony Giddens, who seemed to be demonstrating a "third way" to boogie.
