The European Commission has published a call for proposals for the thematic priority 'nanotechnologies and nanosciences, knowledge-based multifunctional materials and new production processes and devices' of the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6).
The call covers the following areas: For Integrated Projects:
- nanotechnology-based targeted drug delivery;
- development of nanostructured porous materials;
- new production technologies for new micro-devices using ultra precision engineering techniques;
- next generation of flexible assembly technology processes;
- multifunctional material-based factory of the future;
- new construction products and processes for high added value applications;
- mastering 'industrial biotechnology; - environmental technology for sustainable production of added value products.
For STREPs, SSAs and CAs:
- towards 'converging' technologies;
- standardisation for nanotechnology;
- using nature as a model for new nanotechnology-based processes;
- three dimensional nano-structures based on elements other than carbon;
- interaction of engineered nanoparticles with the environment and the living world;
- interfacial phenomena in materials;
- new generation of tools for advanced materials characterisation;
- methods of computational modelling of multifunctional materials;
- advanced materials processing;
- multifunctional ceramic thin films with radically new properties;
- materials by design: multifunctional organic materials;
- materials for solid state ionics;
- new concepts for global delivery;
- roadmapping and foresight studies on the future of manufacturing (Manufuture);
- coordination of European manufacturing research activities;
- basic materials and industrial process research on functional materials for fuel cells;
- improved, energy efficient hydrogen storage systems especially for transport;
- cooperation with third countries in the field of nanotechnology, advanced multi-functional materials and new ways of production research.
For Integrated Projects dedicated to SMEs:
- multi-functional technical textiles for construction, medical applications and protective clothing;
- simultaneous engineering and production of integrated high-tech components for European transport;
- biomaterials technologies for implants;
- nanotechnological approaches for improved security systems.
