Brussels, 05 May 2003
The European Commission's Enterprise DG has published a call for tenders for a study on the levels of innovation in the European pharmaceutical sector.
The study will assess the reasons behind the significant drop in the number of marketing authorisations requested in 2002, looking back at the statistics from 1998 onwards, and forward to prospects for the next five years.
In particular, the study must provide answers to the following questions:
- Is innovation in the pharmaceutical sector in crisis worldwide?
- Are the reasons for the crisis economic, industrial or regulatory, or do they belong to another category?
- What tools are available for us to boost innovation?
The deadline for completing the study will be nine months from the date of the contract award notice.
