A new strategy has been unveiled by Heriot-Watt University to attempt to place its work firmly at the forefront of political debate. The university will reorganise itself to focus on academic research that will seek to answer the big questions facing society, such as climate change. The £10 million strategy aims to increase Heriot-Watt's research base by 50 per cent over the next five years. "We have reviewed our strengths and weaknesses and are rationalising them to invest in growth," said Anton Muscatelli, principal of Heriot-Watt. "Our focus will be on research strengths and our ability to harness these into multidisciplinary groups. It is this multidisciplinary environment that is the foundation of our strategy and which we believe will give a critical mass of research activity and potential."
