Postgraduate students who have submitted a thesis but face delays in arranging a viva will be excluded from state benefits under legislation going through Parliament, the National Union of Students has warned.
Proposed changes to existing legislation aim to clarify the benefits to which full-time students are entitled. However the Social Security Advisory Committee's advice on the changes, published last month, recommended that the government should not proceed with the proposals.
