* Nobel prizewinner Sir John Sulston this week criticised Cambridge University's proposals to take control of the intellectual property generated by its academics.
He said the changes would threaten academic freedom and said that it was vital for universities to protect the intellectual freedom of their employees.
But in his statement to Cambridge's Discussion meeting this week, Sir John supported the university's right to a share in any profits generated.
A vote on the intellectual property changes will be taken by the end of this year.
