Fast food just got faster as computers have been given the ability to champion the perfect pizza. Da-Wen Sun and Tadhg Brosnan of University College Dublin have devised software that analyses the base and topping.
In the Journal of Food Engineering , the experts declare: "The growth in popularity and consumption of pizzas has led to the need for automated quality inspection."
They have used computer vision to extract pertinent values from a scan of each pizza. Those found to have a low ham area percentage or a poor tomato sauce spread quality can be rejected before reaching the diner.
