Glasgow Caledonian University was one of 13 Scottish universities and colleges hit by strike action this week as unions protested against a pay offer linking a 2.5 per cent rise to changes in conditions of service, writes Olga Wojtas.
The Educational Institute of Scotland and the Association of University Teachers, who jointly organised the day of action, warned of more strikes to come unless management made a pay offer without strings.
The dispute is separate to the one affecting the eight old Scottish universities and institutions south of the border.
Lecturers are already working to rule and disrupting student assessment, but Brian Fraser, senior assistant principal at Glasgow Caledonian University, said all GCU student examinations scheduled for the day of action had taken place as normal.
The management is seeking a cut of five days in the 61-day holiday entitlement, and greater flexibility in the working week.
