Russian scientists are planning to recreate an Ice Age steppe environment in a small wildlife preserve near the Arctic town of Chersky.

Horses, bison, moose and reindeer are being introduced into the 15 square mile tundra reserve to graze on the moss tundra. The scientists from the Northeast Scientific Station and ecologists from the University of Alaska hope grazing animals will help re-establish grasses, recreating the ecosystem that existed in the Pleistocene era some 10,000 years ago.
