A child's-eye view of time is to go under the microscope to discover how youngsters organise their day. Sociologists at Hull University and Goldsmiths College have received Pounds 140,000 from the Economic and Social Research Council for the 16-month project, part of a wider study of children between the ages of five and 16. Comparing inner-city and rural areas, researchers will look at how parents and teachers expect children to manage their time and how children negotiate how they will use it. It will also assess the effects of moving from primary to secondary school. The research should lead to guidelines for people working with children.
