Trinity College Carmarthen - Talks start on new university

一月 1, 2009

The governors of Trinity College Carmarthen and the council of the University of Wales, Lampeter, have agreed to "explore the formation of a new university", to be led by Medwin Hughes, the Trinity principal. "Under the leadership of Dr Hughes, the new university will build on the traditions and resources of the respective institutions," a statement from the two bodies said. Members of the two governing bodies will establish a "formation committee" that will prepare "proposals to make the new university a reality" for discussion in March. "This responds directly to the Welsh Assembly Government's One Wales policy document, which aims to create a prosperous society by unlocking the potential of Wales' people," Dr Hughes said. Lampeter was found to have "very real problems of leadership and management" in a 2008 report for the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales.
