A university is bucking the sector's trend of shedding staff and recruiting 36 academics. According to Paul Curran, vice-chancellor of the University of Bournemouth, its expansion was made possible by a restructuring in 2007-08, a tripling in research income after an improved research assessment exercise performance and a strategy of renting buildings. The five new professors, one associate professor, five senior lecturers and 25 lecturers are being recruited to boost the schools of Conservation Sciences, Design and Engineering, Media, Service Management and Health and Social Care alongside recruitment to a new business school.
