Hairdressers should be encouraged to wear gloves to protect them against skin inflammation, a study has concluded. Hairdressers have one of the highest rates of occupational contact dermatitis, with more than 45 per cent suffering from the condition. Wayne Beesley, who is studying for a masters degree in environmental health at the University of Derby, found that hairdressers were caught between prioritising their clients' needs and protecting their own health. Mr Beesley said a campaign explaining the benefits of wearing gloves could make clients more sympathetic to hairdressers' predicament.
