Rumours abound at the University of the West of England that UWE's campus neighbour, the Higher Education Funding Council for England, is planning a cost-cutting move to Gloucester - new home of the Quality Assurance Agency. Could it be that HEFCE, apparently displeased with the QAA's plans for a "lighter touch" approach to policing standards, wants to keep a closer eye on the quality watchdog? Or are HEFCE executives, fed up with travelling around in buses, trains and taxis, hoping for an occasional spin in QAA chief executive John Randall's Land Rover Discovery?
