Bagged by Oxford

十一月 15, 1996

Nearly half a century on from independence, you might hope that Britain could be spared from blame for the continuing chaotic state of Pakistani politics.

No such luck however, as the Pakistani ruling classes still tend to despatch their offspring over here for their higher education.

Thus one of the experiences that sacked premier Benazir Bhutto has in common with her ex-friend, the sacker, President Legari, is an Oxford education. Ms Bhutto even practised for her career at home by getting elected president of the union while at Lady Margaret Hall.

And there will be no relief should cricketer Imran Khan be one of the medium-term beneficiaries of the current imbroglio - he spent three years collecting wickets and a degree at Keble College, Oxford.

This shared experience qualifies this intriguing trio as alumni to be proud of Nos. 75 to 77.
