Not all men are evil 2

十月 26, 2007

There are some topics on which writers ought to take particular care not to risk appearing prejudiced. It was a pity therefore that Joanna Bourke's article contained the sentence: "Men are getting away with rape." I hope she meant "some men", but English grammar allows it also to be interpreted as "all men". If, on the basis of the apparent ineptitude of some women in the use of a dishcloth, I wrote an article containing the sentence, "Women are getting away with leaving stains on dinner plates", I hope I would be asked to rephrase it.
