Your article “Israel critic voted out” (June 15) strongly implies that De Paul University denied Norman Finkelstein tenure because of his criticism of Israel. This mischaracterises the reason for his tenure denial.
According to a letter written by Dennis Holtschneider, the president of De Paul, the decision to deny Finkelstein tenure was based on his “unprofessional personal attacks” on those who oppose his ideology and on an academic assessment that his scholarship is based on bias and rhetoric rather than on objective evidence.
The very idea that an academic has to support Israel in order to get tenure at De Paul, or any other American university, is ludicrous.
