Minuses of support

There could be a simpler reason for A-level students' dissatisfaction with university when compared with non-traditional students' ("Open doors but halt early exits", THES , September 26). A-level courses offer more staff contact time and ongoing formative assessment than mass higher education can afford. Less autonomous former A-level students miss this support, while non-traditional students have never had it and therefore regard university more positively.
