An international network of malaria scientists is to be established following a $20 million (£12.5 million) grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The Worldwide Antimalarial Resistance Network will be administered at the University of Oxford and will integrate the efforts of researchers, NGOs and public health experts to help the World Health Organisation monitor resistance to antimalarial medications. It is hoped that the collaboration will improve the coverage, quality and timeliness of available data, enabling policymakers to respond more quickly to drug resistance.
