I read with interest about the inexpensive technique allowing lecturers to record personalised video feedback while marking, but I am not convinced that it would reduce marking time as proposed (“Essay feedback in reel time”, News, 17 January). Nigel Jones, Cardiff Metropolitan University’s senior lecturer in information systems, has not taken into account the time required to edit out those rude epithets and/or bouts of laughter uttered by frustrated lecturers that are unavoidable components of the marking experience.
