Labour science pledge

A Labour government would transform the Council for Science and Technology to increase openness and give practising scientists better input into government policy.

Adam Ingram, the shadow science minister, told a debate on the future of British science organised by the Save British Science Society, that the council was not sufficiently open. The council advises the government on science policy.

Mr Ingram also said that he had no plans to remove the Office for Science and Technology from the Department of Trade and Industry in the immediate future.
