Crackdown on university colleges expected

A CRACKDOWN on abuse of the title University College is likely to be urged by the Dearing inquiry's report. According to the Universities and Colleges Admission Service, three institutions have been newly entered as university colleges in the 1998 UCAS handbook, bringing to 14 the number of new university colleges since 1994. The Committee of Vice Chancellors and Principals has submitted a paper to the Dearing inquiry highlighting its concerns over the use of the title.
