You can never go back

二月 12, 2015

Reading the results of the Best University Workplace Survey 2015 (“Just the job?”, Features, 5 February) reminded me of when I worked in a new university in England. We were expected to undertake world-leading research, involve ourselves with innovative teaching (ie, water down the syllabus so that underachieving students could pass with at least a 2:1) and attend meetings where we were bullied if we questioned the management’s policies. Enough was enough – I left to work abroad. I would never go back to the bullying culture that pervaded that university, and I take a dim view of British education.
