As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a research project that explores the potential of coaching in positively influencing workplace learners' academic performance and well-being. The Research Assistant will play a crucial role in project management, data collection and analysis, enabling the team to gain valuable insights and make evidence-based recommendations. This is a 1-year funded position with the potential for continued employment to work on other teaching and learning research projects.

Key Responsibilities:


	Collecting longitudinal data from surveys and FGD interviews for all workplace learners across experimental conditions.
	Managing and monitoring survey completion rates.
	Scheduling and conducting FGD interviews with participants.
	Scheduling and following up on coaching supervision and progress of coaching intervention with external coaches and coach-educators, coordinated with PI/co-I.
	Managing token of appreciation for workplace learners disbursed during the project duration.
	Conducting quantitative analysis of survey data and qualitative analysis of FGD interview data.


Job Requirements:


	Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., psychology, education, social sciences)
	1-3 years of experience in educational research
	Experience in research project management and data collection preferred
	Experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods preferred
	Possess track record of scholarly publications/presentations preferred
	Familiarity and interest with coaching principles and research is a plus

	Interpersonal skills for recruiting research participants and collecting data from them
	Ability to apply appropriate data collection and analysis techniques
	Strong organisational skills to effectively manage data collection processes, multiple tasks, deadlines, and project components
	Communication and presentation skills to prepare oral and written communication of findings

	Aptitude for analysing survey and interview data to draw meaningful insights and identify patterns

About the role

This is a part time Research Assistant position investigating how accurately pose estimation models can determine arm kinematics in stroke survivors. The post is located within the Centre for Human and Applied Physiological Sciences, within the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine at King’s College London.

 

The successful applicant will be expected to be proficient at deploying pose estimation models. You will measure arm biomechanics of stroke survivors and determine their accuracy. The post holder will be responsible for conducting all testing, analysing data and write up of the studies. The successful candidate should have a background in computer vision and additional knowledge of biomechanics is desirable. They should be highly competent in Python, with experience in MATLAB and data analysis libraries (e.g., NumPy, SciPy, pandas), while proficiency in C++ is desirable.

 

The position will be supervised by Dr Ulrike Hammerbeck, Dr Letizia Gionfrida and Dr Irene Di Giulio.  The work will be conducted on the Guy’s Campus of King’s College London.

 

This is a part time post (17.5 hours per week), and you will be offered a 1-year fixed term contract starting 3 March 2025 until 2 March 2026. This post is fully based on the campus.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

 

Essential criteria


	A MSc (or equivalent) in Computer Science, AI, bioengineering or a related field
	Experience of using computer vision in research projects
	An understanding of the research process performed in accordance with the ethical principles of working with humans
	Proven ability to work as part of a team
	Excellent communication skills when dealing with participants
	Experience in data analysis using Matlab/Python or equivalent software
	Able to work independently under own supervision
	Experience of report/journal article writing


Desirable criteria


	Experience using biomechanics
	Experience of research working with individuals with neurological disease
	Experience of research related to pose estimation models
