Committed to creating a sustainable campus, the university uses the latest technology to control energy consumption and to reduce its carbon footprint. Newman University also strives to maintain a Fairtrade status to help tackle poverty in the developing world. It works with 400 partnership schools throughout the West Midlands in the UK to broaden the global perspectives of the communities it works with. This work reflects the university’ ethos of respect for others, social justice, and equity.
Research is an important part of the university’s work to contribute to social justice, make an impact in society, and transfer knowledge to the local community. The university is fully equipped with modern research centres including the Children, Young People and Family Research Centre, and the Newman Institute for Leadership in Education.
The university is located in a quiet residential area a few miles outside of Birmingham, a city in the UK. Birmingham is situated in England’s West Midlands region and is home to a network of canals and rivers. The city was a major manufacturing powerhouse during the Industrial Revolution, which led to the development of science, technology and the economy. Today Birmingham is a bustling metropolis and is considered the cultural, financial, and social centre of both the East and West Midlands.
