The universities of Leicester and Warwick are preparing a bid for a joint undergraduate medical school. The new school would be able to accept an initial intake of 300 - 175 based at Leicester and 125 at Warwick. Discussions began in anticipation of the third report from the government's Medical Workforce Standing Advisory Committee, due out in November. This is expected to recommend a significant increase in the number of undergraduate medical student numbers to meet the national shortage of UK-trained doctors.
