SHEFFIELD's two universities will be among the partners in the United Kingdom Sports Institute, whose location in the city was announced this week. Heritage secretary Chris Smith and the UK Sports Council selected Sheffield in preference to the Central consortium based in the Midlands and the Upper Heyford bid, backed by the British Olympic Association. The universities will provide sports science expertise for the institute, which will be funded with Pounds 40 to 60 million of lottery money and is due to open next year.
