Admirable political scientist though David Lane of Emmanuel College, Cambridge is, one suspects he will receive few, if any, Christmas cards from librarians, archivists or anyone who classifies names alphabetically. The latest issue of Political Studies opens with his article on Russian political elites, in which the president of Russia is named as Eltsin, a transliteration of cyrillic script that was evidently acceptable to the journal's referees and editors.
