University to take over Catholic training

GLASGOW University and St Andrew's College, Scotland's only Roman Catholic teacher education college, agreed this week to submit merger proposals to Scottish Secretary Donald Dewar. They propose that St Andrew's will form a university faculty alongside Glasgow's departments of education and adult and continuing education. Its statutory obligation to train teachers for Catholic schools will be transferred to the university, which already validates all its initial teacher education courses.
