The Biotechnology Young Entrepreneurs Scheme has launched its 1998 competition aimed at addressing the shortage of business-minded scientists in Britain's rapidly expanding biotechnology industry. The competition, the third in the series, involves senior industry executives helping students and young researchers get to grips with the requirements of setting-up and running a successful, imaginary biotechnology company. In teams of five, they are then asked to produce business plans for such companies in regional heats. The finalists from each heat then compete for the top prize of Pounds 1000 in the national final.
