Robert Hawkins, professor of oncology at the University of Bristol, has been appointed to the Cancer Research Campaign chair of medical oncology from July 1.
The following personal chairs have been awarded: Richard Grencis, reader, professor of immunology; Alexander Premet, reader, professor of algebra; Gareth Morris, reader, professor of physical chemistry; Bonnie Sibbald, senior research fellow and reader, professor of health services research.
Michael Elves, director of the Office of Scientific and Educational Affairs at Glaxo Wellcome plc, has been appointed honorary visiting professor in the school of biological sciences.
Canterbury Christ Church College The following have been promoted to professorships: Stephen Clift, centre for health education and research; Anthony Lavender, academic director and director of the centre for applied social and psychological development; Carl Parsons, leader of an evaluation team investigating Ofsted inspectors; Sean Greenwood, head of the college's department of history.
