The following have been awarded Anglo-Australian postdoctoral fellowships to work for a year at British universities: Russell Boyce, University of Queensland in Brisbane (department of aeronautics, Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine); Alexander Drew, Queensland Institute of Medical Research (Natural History Museum, London); Amanda Banks, University of Tasmania (department of geography, University of Durham).

Jeremy Treglown, professor in the department of English and comparative literary studies at the University of Warwick has been awarded the Jackson Brothers Fellowship at the library for 1999.
Royal Holloway, University of London
Fellowships have been conferred on: Janet Fookes, baroness, former chairman of the Conservative Parliamentary Education Committee and deputy speaker in the last parliament; Alec Smith, professor and head of the department of geology at Bedford New College, former president of the Geologists' Association and founder and chairman of Geology Today.
Associateship: David Hilling, researcher in transport studies, former honorary treasurer of Bedford College Student Union and dean of overseas students at Royal Holloway, member of the Student Welfare Committee and the Overseas Recruitment Group.
