Physicists seek long-term relationship

The Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council last week published a long-term technology plan for closer relations with industry. It also cites technical advances, such as a successor to the Hubble telescope and experiments to detect "dark" matter in the universe, that the United Kingdom must make to stay at the forefront of scientific discovery. Physicists have long envied chemistry and the biosciences' close ties to industry and PPARC chief Ian Halliday said that better relations could help lever research funds from government.
