(Photograph) - Miriam Alman, a member of the managing committee of the Sybil Campbell Library, which reopened at Great James Street, London, after a six-year relocation programme. Founded by the British Federation of Women Graduates in 1928 and named after the first woman to be appointed a paid magistrate, the library has books donated by Alys and Bertrand Russell, Beatrice and Sidney Webb, Virginia and Leonard Woolf, as well as more modern scholars such as Caroline Spurgeon, scholar of Chaucer and Shakespeare, and Ivy Davison, first woman editor of Geographic Magazine. Library chairman Vivyenne Rubenstein says the focus today is on recording the achievements of women, particularly in the academic field.
