(Photograph) - David Bateman, multimedia officer at the University of Greenwich, with the BAFTA award he won as part of the creative team behind Ceremony of Innocence, an interactive CD-Rom from Peter Gabriel's Bath-based company, Real World Multimedia. Bateman spent a year on industrial secondment to the company while studying for his BSc in computing science at Greenwich. The team received the award from Stephen Fry at a London awards ceremony in the same week as the Open University won one of three coveted British Computer Society awards for its course, "Computing: an Object-Oriented Approach". The course uses a mix of learning technologies including CD-Rom, the Web, computer conferencing and television. It attracted more than 5,000 students in its first year (www-cs.open ac.uk/m206/).
