Unemployed people hitherto excluded from the New Deal initiative will be encouraged to go to college in order to increase their chances of employment under an Pounds 80 million government scheme. The Department for Education and Employment, which bid for and won the major chunk of the Treasury's Pounds 150 million Invest to Save budget, will use the cash to extend the principles of the New Deal to all unemployed people in a bid to increase their chances of finding work and so save taxpayers' money on benefit payments.
