An "outstanding, dedicated and charismatic" social anthropologist was not unfairly dismissed by Edinburgh University, an industrial tribunal has ruled, writes Olga Wojtas.
Alan Campbell, who took early retirement on grounds of ill health a year ago, claimed he had been coerced into leaving after being harassed over a long period.
The Edinburgh tribunal said it had seen no evidence that Dr Campbell had been forced into taking early retirement, which he had considered for almost a year. But it was "a great pity" he had left, since he had exceptional intellectual and academic ability, with a fresh and unpretentious approach in his dealings with students.
