The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has publicly acknowledged that it has been discriminating against women scientists for years. A five-year study published last week revealed that the proportion of female staff in the school of science stalled at 8 per cent more than ten years ago. Women earn less and have smaller offices than men. MIT has taken the unusual step of highlighting the work while promising to achieve equality.
