The University of London has completed a reorganisation that will create one of the strongest centres of Jewish study in Europe. The London School of Jewish Studies has completed an association agreement with the School of Oriental and African Studies, which will give Jewish studies students access to a wide range of academic expertise and one of the best Judaic libraries. Simon Weightman, head of the department of the study of religions at SOAS, said: "Our academic areas of strength fit beautifully together." The LSJS began association negotiations with SOAS because the University of London scrapped associate college status meaning LSJS could no longer offer University of London degrees. It will now be able to offer degrees through SOAS. SOAS is, in turn, seeking closer collaboration with University College London.
