The Committee of Scottish Higher Education Principals claims that the total cost of ax e ing tuition fees for all Scottish students in tertiary education would be more than Pounds 240 million a year. The Coshep forecast came as Scotland's independent committee of inquiry into student finance held its first meeting. The principals calculate that abolishing fees would cost more than Pounds 145 million for undergraduates, Pounds 46 million for postgraduates, and Pounds 50 million for further education students. Coshep says that about Pounds 140 million comes from public funds, but the Scottish Parliament would need to find at least another Pounds 100 million annually if it wanted to axe fees .
