Students at St Andrews University have called on today's senate meeting to support the award of an honorary degree to the student-elected rector, Donald Findlay QC (pictured). Some senate members argue that Mr Findlay should not receive the traditional honour after it was revealed to have led a sectarian singalong that led to his resignation as vice-chairman of Rangers Football Club. Mr Findlay should have been awarded the degree last month, but a decision was deferred to allow the senate to consider written comments.
