Few people are more deserving of a break than Andrew Cubie, following his gruelling five-month stint chairing the Scottish student finance inquiry. So there was loud applause at a Queen Margaret University College fund-raising debate and dinner when Mr Cubie won a raffle prize of two-nights' B&B, complete with dinner, at the Gleneagles Hotel. But Mr Cubie gallantly handed back the prize - perhaps out of solidarity with the students whose lot he fought to improve.
