Lorraine Roseanna Price, a 44-year-old single mother and mature student whose body was found on Sunday morning at Lancaster University's Furness College, had recently completed a degree and was ready to begin a new life.
She was discovered by security staff with stab wounds to her head and back. Rateb Raslan, 30, a postgraduate at the university and resident of Furness College, has been charged with murder.
Ms Price, who had a 13-year-old daughter, was majoring in women's studies and lived off campus in the neighbouring town of Galgate.
Vicky Tyrell, a spokesperson for Lancaster University, said: "Obviously everyone is very upset and shocked, especially friends of the people involved. We're coping with it as best as we can and we are trying to support our students."
