Disabled academics have criticised plans to improve equal opportunities as a "lame" missed opportunity.
A group, led by Sheffield Hallam University professor Cedric Pugh, has warned that a consultation paper from the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals is not ambitious enough, and neglects ethnic minority and disability issues.
The paper, Improving Equal Opportunities for Higher Education Staff, details plans for a new full-time Equality Action Group, to be set up jointly with the Higher Education Funding Council with Pounds 2.5 million for the first five years.
