Computer bug could strike Scottish exams
A millennium bug in the Scottish Qualifications Authority’s new computer system could affect next year’s examinations, the Scottish Parliament’s education committee has warned. The committee said the system should be checked urgently.
Sixth forms lack books, group says
Sixth-formers studying the new A and AS curriculums are short of books, it was claimed today. The School Book Alliance says not all local education authorities are passing on the money set aside for this purpose. The Department for Education and Employment says it earmarked £95 million for the courses.
RCN suggests ways to end nursing crisis
Larger grants for student nurses and a review of pay and conditions for nursing lecturers are among the Royal College of Nursing's recommended measures to beat the nursing crisis. The report, by experts from Queen Margaret College, Edinburgh, says 110,000 recruits are needed by 2004, 57,000 more than the goverment target.
