Court frees academic jailed for terrorism
United States attorney general Janet Reno has freed Mazen Al-Najjar, who was jailed as a suspected terrorist in May 1997. Professor Al-Najjar was affiliated to a think-tank linked to the University of South Florida and worked with Ramadan Abdullah Shallah, who left Tampa in 1995 to become head of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Zambia encourages study of science
Zambia is to set up a private university to increase the number of graduates in engineering and applied sciences. The announcement was made by science minister Abel Chambeshi.
