William Paterson University is one New Jersey location unavailable for the filming of the cult TV show The Sopranos , whose second series ended in Britain last week.
University officials blamed logistical difficulties for a last-minute cancellation of permission to film in and around its library. The cancellation, it maintained, had nothing to do with the series' caricature of Italian-Americans.
Meanwhile, the university's associate professor of sociology, Susanna Tardi, relinquished her plans to deliver a lecture titled "Desperately seeking real Italians: an antidote to The Sopranos ", which was designed as a protest against the series' stereotyping of New Jersey's Italian community.
